Boise’s Cultural Background

Billy Fong, resident of Boise’s old China Town

Question:
What is the ethnic/cultural background of Boise and the surrounding areas?

Answer:
Ethnic Landmarks is a great book that details some of the history of the different ethnicities in Boise. It explores the effects that 10 different groups had on Boise, and their built environment. You can learn about Shoshone-Bannocks, Irish, Mexicans, Germans, Jewish, Chinese, Basques, Bohemians, African Americans, and the Greeks, and their distinct neighborhoods here in Boise. The book also contains a walking tour map where you can see many of the great sites that are mentioned in the book. You can pick up a copy at the Department, so drop by anytime M-F, 8-5.
