RESEARCHING THE NOVEL
Presented by Rick Just
November 3, 2016

Of course a nonfiction writer must do considerable research. But a novelist is free to write whatever is in their head, right? No. And yes. Rick Just has published both nonfiction and fiction works. His latest, Ghost Writer, won the 2015 Idaho Author awards for Best Young Adult Novel and Best E-book. In this presentation he will discuss why and how novelists need to conduct research, using a variety of methods ranging from seeking original source material to combing the internet. Just will give examples of getting it right— and getting it wrong— from contemporary fiction and his own work.
