Boise Depot

Arts & Culture at the Depot is a partnership program between the City of Boise's departments of Parks & Recreation and Arts & History.  The program offers exhibition and presentation space free of charge for artists, historians, and performers to use the Boise Depot as a small-scale exhibition, presentation, and performance space during Sunday and Monday public hours.  City staff hope this program will encourage Boiseans to visit the landmark structure while concurrently providing an attractive, free venue for individuals and groups who want to share their art and cultural related talents and expertise with the public.

Please note that we are unable to allow selling on the Boise Depot site at this time.

Overview

The Boise Depot is a city landmark that is operated by Parks & Recreation staff.  The Depot's history begins in 1925, when this beautiful historic Spanish-style structure opened as the Union Pacific railroad station.  The Great Hall is a soaring 3, 542-square-foot multi-story atrium with stunning architectural details.  Building grounds offer a splendid panoramic view of the Boist Front; also enjoy the pathways, gazebo, and koi pond in the lovely Platt Gardens.

Available exhibit and performance space includes:

  • Great Hall - this space is most appropriate for visual arts, historical, or cultural exhibition-style presentations.  (Performances can be a challenge because of the acoustics.)
  • Meeting Station - This is a room on the east side of the building that is ideal for lectures or other seated presentations for audiences of up to about 25 people.
  • Outdoor Area - Music, dance, and other performance genres can use space outside of the main building.  (See Program Description and General Information Details for amplification guidelines.)

Guidelines Summary

Exhibits and performance must not impede public access and must be appropriate for a public audience.  Exhibitors and presentors may sell their work on site, but please keep in mind that the program's primary intent is to share arts and culture with our community.  While we hope exposure for participatns leads to sales and long-term viability, the venue is not intended to be an artists's market.

The City of Boise staff has final authority on whether an applicant's proposal is appropriate for the Boise Depot venue.

Exhibitors' and Performers' responsibilities:

Bringing, setting up, and tearing down all display materials (such as signs, tables, and racks) independently.
