This sculpture is dedicated to the round-the-clock vigilance of the firefighters at Boise Fire Station 4. This working sundial denotes daylight hours by projecting a shadow from the central gnomon, which casts upon the base place marked with time intervals. At night, when there is no sun to project a shadow, hours are represented by the light at the heart of the sculpture. Sundials have been used to track the passing of time for over 3,500 years.
