Everyone in life has that personal struggle, their own Tough Nut to Crack, and this painting represents Van Dyck's. The Boulder Mountains provide the perfect background with the beautiful lighting that created the palette that he used for the entire piece. Randy Van Dyck chose the vintage clamp for its color and texture, not to mention the ability to open nuts when called upon. The nuthatch is not only one of his favorite birds, but it also further compliments the concept as well as the color and mood of the artwork.
