The personal significance of Ascension is my love for people, and the wonderful contrast in physicality. There’s beauty in how light hits the various tones in our skin, the contours of our face, smile lines, freckles, scars, the details that make us unique. My proposal represents that love for people. Each portrait differs from the next. It depicts the beauty of diversity and individuality, while the connecting peace lilies are the representation of unity, showing fellowship despite our differences. During the conceptual development, there was no overt meaning in mind. It began with that primary interest in portraiture. Apart from beliefs, politics, and social significance, its purpose is to simply depict community.
