“Grove Street Illuminated” & “Boise Canal” document the ephemeral history of Grove Street’s transformations. The three sculptured aluminum circles refer to the cycles of change that have taken place on Grove Street. Each circle has a set of silk-screened photographs and engraved text that represent a particular cycle of change. Featured are early Victorian homeowners and businessmen of Grove Street: Lafayette Cartee, C.W. Moore, and Cyrus Jacobs. References are made of neighborhood characteristics such as the electric trolley system; lush gardens and groves of trees; Chinese-owned restaurants, laundries, farms and the canal that ran open along Grove Street in the late 1800s, then called “Jacobs’ Ditch,” now called Boise Canal. Ten bronze manhole covers spelling out Boise Canal are set into the ground and lit from below, marking the axis of the existing historic canal that runs underground in a concrete pipe.
