The artists used a stark contrast of black and white and intended for this artwork to incorporate the viewer's movement - as the pedestrian or vehicle passes by, the panel constantly changes as the leaf images briefly become whole and then dissolve again. The leaf images were chosen because they symbolically represent the origin of Boise's name. Boise's name, "Les Bois" (meaning "the woods" in French), originated from French-Canadian fur trappers in the area. This artwork was installed in 1992 by the Boise City Arts Commission and the Capital City Development Corporation.
