This bronze sculpture of President Abraham Lincoln—seated in thoughtful repose—honors both his enduring legacy and his connection to Idaho history. During Lincoln’s presidency, in 1863, the Idaho Territory was officially established. The statue is a reproduction of the original "Seated Lincoln" by Idaho-born sculptor Gutzon Borglum, best known for creating Mount Rushmore. The work was faithfully recreated using high-resolution scans and hundreds of photographs, then cast in bronze in Joseph, Oregon. It rests upon a stone bench, inviting visitors to sit, reflect, and consider Lincoln’s ideals of unity, leadership, and moral courage. Installed in 2009 to mark the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth, this tribute was made possible through the vision and dedication of Idahoan Carol MacGregor.
