Shirley McCarter is a multi-media craftsperson. One material is rarely enough for her, and she is often inspired by the shifting of a design idea from one medium to another. Creative excitement comes straight to McCarter from ethnic design, primitive patterns and natural forms. She is inspired to translate them into original things to wear or use, or just to amuse and give away. McCarter searches for edgy, exciting color in what she makes, and takes great satisfaction in skillful work that is lasting and full of energy.
