"As humans we have deep connections with others. Whether it’s with a friend, partner, spouse, and/or family member. We long for these connections; a sense of worth to someone else. Love is deep, impactful, and powerful. Despite being our own person with unique characteristics, passions, and accomplishments—we can still feel unfulfilled. My work explores this theme of connection with two figures next to one another, almost as if they are joined as one, both sharing the same heartbeat. Using digital tools and traditional brushes I was able to be both expressive and precise in areas to evoke emotion, movement, stillness, and life in the subjects. Our connections themselves are living things. They can be filled with excitement, love, and happiness. Over time there can also be a sense of boredom, frustration, disappointment, heartache, and even pain. When unpleasant feelings and or actions occur between those we love, we are faced with a choice. We can either allow our connections to drift away slowly, we can end them quickly, or we can hold strong and push through. Specific circumstances understandably should result in separation for the betterment of one or both individuals. With that said, in many and most instances, I believe love is worth enduring and fighting for. Love can heal us. Love can change hearts. Love can be eternal. This piece at its core shows us that we can choose to cement ourselves in our relationships. Doing so, even through adversity, can amount to great joy and fulfillment." - Tony Montano
