"In this illustrated collage, I was inspired to depict my favorite places, events and experiences in Boise and the Treasure Valley. My desire was to convey the appreciation I have for these places and experiences. The snow culture and mountain life is portrayed as a few skiers and snowboarders enjoy the view while heading up the slopes. The Treasure Valley is rife with craft sales, garage sales, recycling/upcycling and thrift shopping which was represented by a typical craft fair tent with customers looking onto a small Idaho, with a star for Boise and the Treasure Valley. The red trestle bridge symbolizes my love for the various Greenbelts and everyone that enjoys them. The popular hot springs that pepper this region are shown by a woman enjoying a good soak; she is looking down the river towards a couple enjoying the riverbanks and a jet skier further down. The Spirit of Boise hot air balloons can be seen floating over a vineyard hill, two attractions that draw people from across the country. Babby Farms is an oasis of exotic animals as seen by the friendly camel. Hops are a popular agricultural product in the Treasure Valley, which goes hand in hand with the awesome craft beer culture here. The state seal peeks out of the clouds, looking over some fisherman and swimmers enjoying one of the many lakes this state has to offer. The well-traveled mountain biker throws a Shaka to the plane, which is a common gesture in Hawaii and means hello, goodbye and thank you. As Hawaii is where I grew up, I wanted to slip in a little piece of myself while showing appreciation for my new home. Birds of prey circle in the distance, claiming their dominance over the skies. And finally, a tree borders my artwork, which I see as a sign of strength and wisdom as well as a symbol for Boise, the City of Trees." - Brian Shea
