This bronze statue of a World War II Airman stands as a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of all World War II veterans, and honors the legacy of Boise’s military base, Gowen Field. Once home to a vital Army Air Corps training base, Gowan Field was used to train B-17 and B-24 bomber crews. More than 6,000 men and women were stationed here during the war. Today, the airfield continues to serve the Idaho National Guard, carrying forth the legacy of Idaho’s servicemembers. The sculpture was meticulously sculpted in clay by artist Ben Victor at the Warhawk Air Museum, then cast in bronze at Valley Bronze foundry in Joseph, Oregon.
