Release Date: 5/7/2026
To meet the growing demand of today’s travelers, the Boise Airport launched BOI Upgrade—a multi-year capital improvement program designed to expand and modernize airport infrastructure in step with regional growth, including Concourse A with up to 10 new gates.
Thanks to this expansion and in accordance with the Percent for Art Ordinance, 1.2% of capital funds are being allocated to public art projects totaling between $3 and $5 million over the next five years. Boise Airport and the city’s Department of Arts & History have identified up to eight locations for public art. Together, these public artworks will help create a dynamic, visually cohesive, and inclusive facility that better meets the community’s needs.
The city is now inviting artists to submit qualifications for the first wave of calls.

Up to 10 finalists may be selected and compensated $500 to submit concept proposals and interview with the selection panel. Up to two artists or artist teams may be selected to implement their design concept.

Up to six finalists may be selected and compensated $3,000 each to submit concept proposals and interview with the selection panel. Up to two artists or artist teams will be selected to implement their design and fabricate the work for two separate locations.

Process & Funding
The Boise Airport’s growing public art collection is guided by the Boise Airport Arts Master Plan (adopted in 2023) and funds public art projects specifically located on its campus. Although the process varies from project to project, public art projects follow a public process where artists and artist teams are selected by a community-based panel. Learn more.
The City of Boise will continue to release future public art opportunities in step with planned capital improvements.

About Boise Airport
The Boise Airport has connected our community to the wider world for the last 100 years. In 1926, a gravel bed on a rocky stretch land next to the Boise River was transformed into a fully operational airport in just two months, launching the city’s connection to the national airmail system. A century later the Boise Airport welcomes over 5 million passengers each year and is served by eight airlines flying to 28 nonstop destinations. Visit iflyboise.com to learn more.
