James Castle House Opens Applications for 2025 Residencies 

Emerging and mid-career artists, scholars, and professionals are invited to apply for residencies at the James Castle House in Boise, Idaho, through August 9, 2024. 


Boise, ID – The City of Boise and its Department of Arts & History invite emerging and mid-career artists, scholars, and professionals to apply for residencies at the James Castle House in Boise, Idaho. The James Castle House, located at 5015 Eugene Street in Boise’s Collister Neighborhood, is a historic site and museum that serves as a testimony to the legacy of self-taught artist James Castle. The James Castle House residency program provides artists, curators, writers, performers, and other creative individuals with the opportunity to live and work onsite for 10 weeks or 10 days. During their stay, residents take inspiration from the house and its legacy of creativity to develop a new body of work.

10-Week Residency 
The James Castle House offers three 10-week residencies a year. The experience provides easy access to downtown Boise and the nearby foothills, private furnished living quarters, studio access, and a $5,000.00 stipend to assist with living expenses and supplies necessary to create work. Residents offer community engagement opportunities, including open studios, workshops, talks, and other experiences related to their creative practice.  
 
Individuals are invited to apply for the following 10-week residency terms:  

  • Spring Term: February 5 – April 16, 2025 

  • Summer Term: May 14 – July 23, 2025 

  • Fall Term: August 27 – November 5, 2025 


Short Stay Residency 
The James Castle House offers two 10-day stays a year. The experience provides easy access to downtown Boise and the nearby foothills, private furnished living quarters, studio access, and a $500.00 stipend to assist with living expenses and supplies necessary to create work. Residents offer one open studio event during their stay. 
 
Individuals are invited to apply for the following short-stay terms: 

  • January 10 – 20, 2025 

  • December 5 – 15, 2025 

Applications for the 2025 residency periods are due August 9, 2024. Video applications are available for individuals who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing. For more information and to apply, visit jamescastlehouse.org/Residencies/Apply

Prospective applicants are also invited to attend a free, virtual information session via ZOOM on Monday, July 8, 2024, 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. MT to learn more about the program, the application, and the selection process.
