Traffic Box Art

SUBMISSIONS NOW CLOSED
Next Opening: Fall 2026

Boise's Traffic Box Art program, established in 2009, calls for emerging and established local artists (of all ages, with parent or guardian acting as contract representative for applicants under 18 years of age) to transform traffic signal boxes into vibrant public art via vinyl wraps.

Applicants can submit original, existing artwork or create new, original artwork consisting of illustration, painting, digital images, textiles, mosaic, photography, photographs of original artwork, and more, with applications typically due in the fall.

Each year, artists respond to a different prompt, with recent themes focusing on climate/community (2026) or reimagining a new city through non-naturalistic colors, forms, and perspectives (2025), adding color and creativity to city streets. A community-based panel selects artists, who receive payment ($1,000-$1,200) and have their art digitized and installed as durable vinyl wraps (last 5-7 years).

Over the years, the program has been made possible thanks to the support of Ada County Highway District, Capital City Development Corporation, the City of Boise’s Neighborhood Investment Program, Energize Our Neighborhoods, and city leadership.
