The Consul of Mexico in Boise, Idaho, Celso H. Delgado, Boise City Council President Pro Tem Elaine Clegg, Councilmember Lisa E. Sánchez, and Boise City Department of Arts & History Staff will come together on Thursday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate the “Tree of Life” or Árbol de la Vida artwork and Boise’s cultural ties to Mexico.

The piece was facilitated by the Consulate of Mexico and donated to the City of Boise and the people of Boise in May 2014. The artwork is a clay sculpture created in central Mexico by the people of the municipality of Metepec. An “Árbol de la Vida” (Tree of Life) is a modeled narrative sculpted in clay that provides a sense of identity, evoking fantasy and telling stories. Boise's “Árbol” is a symbol of this community's direct link to Mexico and our shared future.

For safety, the public artwork was stored, while crews worked on renovating the Airport’s terrazzo surface mural known as “Terra Firma” (2003) by Elizabeth Wolf. After undergoing maintenance and minor repairs, the sculpture will be on view, once again, for the public’s enjoyment.

The event is free and open to the public.
