8th St. Marketplace Artists in Residence First Thursday Open Studios

BOISE, ID-- 8th St. Marketplace Artists in Residence will host open studios for the public on First Thursday, April 5. The artists will show new work, including installation work by Star Moxly, the Wake Island Film project by Seth Randal, exhibition of Art Journals by Idaho Book Arts Guild, mixed media sculptural work by Adrian Kershaw and a group visual art show by Theresa Burkes, Cassandra Schiffler, Kate Masterson and Sara Masterson.

STUDIO SHOWCASE--

MOXLEY STUDIO
Mercantile Suite 201, 8th and Broad, East side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
New work by installation artist and costume designer, Star Moxley will present "Setting The Wild Horses Free" the first of six multimedia installations.
 
RANDAL STUDIO
Mercantile Suite L138, 8th and Broad, East side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
Film maker, Seth Randal will show clips from  "Wake Island" and "Sergeant Paine" documentaries, and showcase WWII-era items provided by local Wake Island families.

MASTERSON, SCHIFFLER, BURKES STUDIO
Northrup Suite 295, 8th and Broad, West Side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
A group show of new works by all four artists.Theresa Burkes will show a collection of framed and unframed monotype prints made with non-toxic akua inks; Cassandra Schiffler will present abstract work that explores spatial relationships with an emphasis on vertical and horizontal structures; Kate & Sara Masterson (sisters who draw upon their shared experiences to comment on the subject of family) will feature their individual works as a combined visual dialogue comprised of found objects, painted images, and the written word.

IDAHO BOOKARTS GUILD STUDIO
Northrup Building, 8th and Broad, West Side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
The group will present art journal displays, paper making examples and installations on the history of bookmaking. Three free bookmaking workshops will also be offered:Slot and Fold Bookmaking; No cuts- No glue Pocket Book From Trash Origami; and Hidden Room Book Forms.

KERSHAW STUDIO
Renewal Underground, 517 S. 8th Street between Myrtle and Fulton, 5pm-9pm
Adrian Kershaw will show new mixed media VHS tape sculptures and colorful paintings.


The 8th St Marketplace Artists in Residence (AiR) program selects emerging and established artists for six-month residencies in donated downtown Boise commercial office spaces. AiR originated in the 8th Street Marketplace, which continues its commitment to the program in the Mercantile and Northrup buildings, and has expanded to an additional site in the Renewal "Underground" at 8th and Fulton. The Boise City Department of Arts & History administers the AiR program and works in partnership with property owners Ephraim Greenwall, G. Square Companies, and the Boise Weekly.
