Boise City Purchasing or Commissioning
Artwork for
the Boise Visual Chronicle Collection
Boise- Boise City Department of Arts & History (A & H) announces a biennial call for visual artists to submit existing artwork or proposals for new works to be included in the Boise Visual Chronicle, which is a collection of over ninety artworks by fifty-two Idaho artists that reflects the diverse expression and concerns of artists responding to life in Boise. A & H is seeking submissions from artists working in all media and all genre including, representational, non-representational, abstract, and conceptual works. All works in the collection are on public view in several locations including Boise Centre Convention Center, Boise City Hall, Capital City Development Corporation and Boise Airport. SELECTION PROCESS:
A five member selection panel, including representation
from Boise City Council, A & H, the community, and an artist
and/or arts professional, will review applications and select
artwork for purchase. The panel may request additional information
and may ask to see the actual works under consideration.
Recommended works must receive final approval for purchase from
Visual Arts Advisory Committee, A & H Commission and Boise City
Council.
DEADLINE:
Applications must be received in the Department of
Arts & History office by 5pm on Monday, March 12, 2012.
This is not a postmark date.
BUDGET:
The panel has an overall budget of up to $15,000 with
which to purchase or commission new work. All purchases are at the
discretion of the panel. 2-D artwork will be purchased un-matted
and unframed, unless otherwise agreed; Boise Citywill frame
purchased works if necessary.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Open to all artists 18 years of age or older
- Artists must reside inIdaho
- Open to all media, both 2- and 3-dimensional (2-D work must be
able to hang on the wall
and 3-D work must not exceed 3'x3'x3' and 100 lbs.) - Artwork must be original
- Materials used in the work must be archival, i.e., meet museum standards of preservation
- Existing artwork offered for sale must have been created after 2006
APPLICATION PROCESS
All applications must include:
- current artist's resume including mailing address, phone, and e-mail (Word Document or PDF)
- An Explanatory Statement about the artwork submitted and how it relates to the mission of the Boise Visual Chronicle, not to exceed 125 words OR a proposal for new work and how it relates to the mission of the Boise Visual Chronicle, not to exceed one page (Word Document or PDF)
- Up to ten digital files of existing work available for purchase, or, if submitting a proposal, up to ten digital files of past work that relate to the proposed artwork. Specifications for Digital Files - Images must be in a jpeg file format sized under 1200 x 1800 pixels with a 72 dpi resolution (images will be put in Powerpoint).
- Image identification sheet with artist name, titles, dates, medium, size, purchase price of artwork or commission price of new work
- A Self Addressed, Stamped Envelope (SASE) if artists want submission returned
